Off Grid and Microgrid – How to balance stakeholder objectives

15.45 – 17.00 | Thursday 13 June 2019

Rod has been the Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at Selectronic Australia since 2005 and more recently has moved to the role of CEO. Prior to this he was involved with various start-up companies in the IT industry. Rod’s involvement in the renewables Industry has recently become like a return to his past with IT, big data and communications now playing such a significant part. Selectronic has been designing and manufacturing battery-based inverters since 1981 for both the Australian and overseas markets. Offering the outstanding SP PRO series these inverters range from 3kW to 60kW in battery voltages of 24V, 48V and 120V and can be used in both on-grid and off-grid systems.

Abstract Outline:

Bi Directional Microgrids need to be able to deliver solutions that satisfy the needs of the local grid operator and the customers. Many variations in requirements are faced by the system designer, loads, terrain, environmental issues, limited space for ground mount PV, distance between customers etc. Flexibility of functions and scalability is essential to be able to meet future needs as well.

Australia has many years of experience in remote off grid systems which together with our high penetration of renewables makes us the focus of the world for Microgrids and Off-Grid. This presentation will include case studies that demonstrate the challenges faced as well as the outcomes of projects both in Australia and overseas.
